Organization expert Erin Rooney Doland, Editor-in-Chief of Unclutterer.com, will show you how to clear the clutter, simplify your surroundings, and create the remarkable life you deserve -- in just one week.

Simple living isn't about depriving; it's about enriching. But while scribbling "Be more organized" on a list of New Year's resolutions doesn't take much effort, actually becoming more organized requires real change.

It's easy to feel stressed, anxious, and overwhelmed when your surroundings, schedule, and thoughts are chaotic. The solution? Customer Review :

Unrealistic time schedule and okay content

In comparison to other books on organization, I didn't find anything particularly new and the writing style is average at best. Also, for those who really need to unclutter their home, office, etc. It will take longer than a week unless you have a small place and can devote yourself full-time to the task.

I also am deducting a star for the higher price of the Kindle edition while being a very average book.

HOW TO UNCLUTTER YOUR LIFE IN ONE WEEK

At age 80+ it's about time we get around to the difficult process of downsizing, a.k.a uncluttering. A friend recommended this book as having saved their marriage. To my knowledge our marriage is not that much in trouble, but my wife suggested we read the book. It had the desired effect on our lifestyle, but as my wife reminds me daily--"We are just beginning, dear!" And it's already been over a week!!! Nevertheless, I say it it is a good read.

Great rescource to identify what you need, where to put it and to reduce consumption and waist

I have bought other organization and planning books but not been able to implement them. I have had this book for about a month and have been working away at different areas since I received it. I started with the areas where I needed a clear approach. For me that has been clearing clothes from my closet, setting-up a reception station at home and now I'm starting to tackle my paper files. What really works is having a place to start that is logical.

Even though I have not uncluttered my life in one week, I have made serious progress.

Love this book!!

This book is great! It has great suggestions for how to get rid of and maintain clutter. The only thing I would have liked more of is how to organize kid's room with lots of toys and clothes, particularly for toddlers. Also, I could have used more tips on how to organize the laundry room and garage, but otherwise great book. If you have issues with organization, how to get started organizing and how to maintain clutter, this book will be good for you.

Rating :

Totally Impractical

The idea that you will be able to completely unclutter your bedroom closet, then head off to work and work on your office desk clutter AND THEN return home in the evening and clear out your "reception station", all on Monday, is so laughable I struggle to see how this book was even published. I am a person who does not tend to have clutter to begin with, but like to read new ways in which I can improve the flow of my and my families lives. When I go to redo my closet it takes at least a half day, where my desk may take an hour or so and the same with or backdoor area. But to think that someone with a clutter issue can accomplish one major and two smaller tasks in one day is beyond ridiculous. And lets not forget the tasks for Tuesday through Sunday and having to go to work each day on top of it.

There are some interesting facts scattered throughout the books and an idea or two that have some potential to help you stay clutter free. Although I feel there are many other books out in the marketplace which are more realistic in terms of time and emotion that will help individuals to achieve better results verses wasting money on Unclutter Your Life in One Week.

Just started it, but I really like it

I downloaded the sample on Kindle along with another book on organization. The other one needed to be better organized! ;-)

Unlike another reviewer, I like the Zen thoughts she has. A place does "feel" better to me when it is neat and organized and beautifully decorated. She talked at the outset about people having lots of golden strands that never get tied and I liked that too.

At the outset she wants you to keep an organizational journal---again, this works for me. I like knowing where I was when I get somewhere else. She also talks about seeing your dreams by creating a dream board. I already do something like that with a notebook, so I'm still in sync with her.

OK, the first month is the kitchen. And right at the get-go she gives you about 5 choices and says choose one or two and make it a habit. One was taking out the garbage each day. Another was unloading the dishwasher when it completes a cycle. Another was wiping off the counters after every use. You get the idea. A habit that takes a few minutes. I took out the trash right away. Unloading the dishwasher is another matter---LOL, I store my dishes in there---but I am going to try.

It does make you feel empowered. I would have chosen wiping off the counters, but---eeek, where are they. I don't cook, so my counters catch everything. Notebooks and projects and thus and so.

I will update this as I go along---but, this is exactly what I was looking for. Someone to give me choices AND direction and break it down into pieces I can manage.

Just Do It

I've searched for the perfect book on organizing - and it doesn't exist. That's because my needs are specific, my patterns of procrastination unique etc. But nearly perfect is Regina Leeds' Organized Life. Leeds teaches a basic set of techniques for not just getting organized, but staying organized. People often want to be spoon fed. Hey guys, wake up! Maybe it's that kind of passivity and laziness that got you where you are! Leeds invites the reader to explore his/her life, keep notes, and really look at WHY YOU SHOULD ORGANIZE - WHICH IS TO HAVE MORE TIME TO HAVE FUN. Sure, Leeds gives personal examples, and has her own style. I think a book on organizing without that would be very dry and boring. But as well, Ms. Leeds provides ample margins for jotting personal notes. I wouldn't get too hung up on style and structure. If you work with this book for awhile you will understand the philosophy, and the logical steps you yourself can take to improve your life, and do more with less stress. The point is the author offers both concrete advice and inspiration. It worked for me. I used the techniques in this book over the holidays and had my best Christmas in years. I got more done with less stress. Don't wait to find the perfect book on organizing. Write your own, with the help of this author! This author's a great coach. Take what works. A real plus is the spacious size of the book with plenty of room to write your own notes.

Oh I Wish I Could Have Been Organized Enough To Get Through The Book!

This sounds like SUCH a great idea, but first you have to be motivated and organized enough to make it through the book. I think I made it to Week 1, and I'm not sure I completed that.

One of these days I plan to go back through it and see if I can at least make it to Week 2.

My ducks in a row...

Thank you, Regina for changing my life! Now my home and work place are free of clutter and I can breathe again!

Your Zen approach is easy to understand, simple and very loving.

Meeting with clients, hauling the kids to soccer, supervising the kitchen remodel — women today juggle so many commitments that many don’t find time to focus on their own dreams. First created for her own needs, Jennifer Louden’s Life Organizer is a datebook for the soul that helps women create the life they want. Divided into four sections, the first part defines “inner organizing” and explains how to use the book. Next, Louden defines “time monsters,” “minimum requirements,” “shadow comforts,” and other pertinent concepts. Fifty-two two-page spreads, one for each week of the year, include prompts for goal-setting and soul exploration. Stories accompanying each section show how other women have used the organizer to make a time for inner play and for finding the soul’s purpose. Most of all, the book helps women hold themselves gently accountable, giving them ideas to explore their inner needs and a place to record the progress they’ve made.

FOR WOMEN OF ALL AGES

After reading this book and fully appreciating its message, I have recommended it to several of my women clients --- all have appreciated the recommendation --- and I've seen results in their lives. I want to congratulate Jennifer Louden on creating a very useful resource for women of all ages who are looking for a way to create more meaning and purpose in their "cluttered" lives. I especially appreciated the personal stories and illustrations from other women lives. I'm going to buy two or three more right now and pass them on to friends as well. Pamela D. A must have.

This is about organzing your life in a way in which to feel more fulfilled and less stressed. I loved the way the author arranged the book, though it took a bit getting used to. Overall, this is a great read and will help those frustrated to work it out in a way never before. I recommend it. I also recommend This Year I Will...: How to Finally Change a Habit, Keep a Resolution, or Make a Dream Come True.

check it out

I opted for a used book and I have no regrets....with the exception of two scribbles on pages 1 and 2 it appeared brand new and I thought it was a great deal for the price. Life changing content....a philosophical approach to organizing...a complete contrast to Regina Leeds which was my first book on organizing...one year to an organized life... from practical to a soul searching experience I felt they both complimented each other fairly well. a must read for all women especially working women.

Not too spunky

My Reflection on Completing all 52 Weeks

This was a hard book to get started with because while it is guided, its not your traditional guided journal/reflection book.

It took me about 3 tries to get out of 1st gear with the book and get into a groove writing. What helped was I finally decided I did not need to write every day on a Mon, Tues, Wed, Thur, Fri type of schedule. That I could write when I wanted to to. Also what helped was writing into my own journal and not into the book.

Now for the book itself. Once you get past the getting started mode it is quite helpful at allowing one to reflect on Should Do, Could Do, and Can do's of life. The reflective questions go beyond the traditional questions you'd expect. The notion of an intention for each week is powerful. The reflective question that asks you to go back over your previous reflections is also quite powerful. The quotes from notable figures was exciting and very inspirational.

The book helped me immensely with seeing myself clearier and understanding what I can tolerate, and what I will not tolerate and what I can do about it.

Because the book has an open/make it yours kind of style this can be disconcerting to those who are used to a more traditional style of guided journaling, but in the end this style works as well. Give it a try.

Extremely helpful diagnosis (though somewhat overwhelming solution)...

I first encountered this book almost about eight years ago and was amazed to read Dr. Swenson's diagnosis of a problem that so many of us experience every day. Our collective and often subconscious obsession with busier and bigger and faster and more is leading us down an overloaded and tragic path towards personal and cultural crisis, and we see the fall-out of this pattern all the time. Though many of us are aware that something is horribly wrong, Swenson articulates the problem very well, and his suggestion that we need to create and fanatically maintain margin in our emotional, physical, and financial worlds is extremely compelling.

My critique of the book is two-fold. First, I felt like some of his points were rather repetitive. Second, and more frustrating, I was overwhelmed by the sheer volume of suggested solutions to Swenson's accurately diagnosed problems. As he offered suggestions for carving out margin in various areas of our lives, he offered as many as 17 solutions to a particular problem. Though the specific solutions were fine, there were simply too many of them. Anyone trying to implement his prescriptions for the cure of overload would probably have less margin in their lives!!

Despite my disappointment with his rather overwhelming conclusions, I am most grateful for Swenson's critique of the lifestyle that has become normative in 21st-century America. He has put words to things that I have been feeling for years and provided a more specific context to understand why my life at least occasionally feels overwhelming and unmanageable. Though I only have the margin to pursue a handful of his solutions, he has much to offer. For anyone who thinks they might be too busy, exhausted, financially stretched, and generally overloaded, "Margin" is a great place to start to understand the problem and begin to take some steps to fix it.

You Are Not Alone . . .

if you are feeling overwhelmed by the "pace of life"! At times we may wonder if we are the only ones, but Dr. Swenson helps you realize that it affects all of us. We may feel that there is nothing we can do about it/that we should just work harder and go faster and "deal with it", but he explains that it is perfectly fine to "dare to be different"! His specifice suggestions as to then go about that are clear and concise. God did not intend that we go thru life frazzled!!!

An excellent concept that deserves better execution

I dont want to play contrarian to vote against the majority of 5 star reviews here. However, as a christian self help book lover, I am obliged to comment that the author had spent too many words (1/3 of the book) to describe the importance of having a margin and too few passages on the solutions for various issues. Furthermore, the author could have related more to God/Bible as the final resort. With limited time and money, I would suggest "Joyce Meyer's 21 ways to finding peace and happiness" and "God's answers to life's difficult questions by Rick Warren" as better alternatives.

Based on their workshops and counseling experience, psychologists Jane B. Burka and Lenora M. Yuen offer a probing, sensitive, and at times humorous look at a problem that affects everyone: students and scientists, secretaries and executives, homemakers and salespeople. Procrastination identifies the reasons we put off tasks—fears of failure, success, control, separation, and attachment—and their roots in our childhood and adult experiences. The authors offer a practical, tested program to overcome procrastination by achieving set goals, managing time, enlisting support, and handling stress. Burka and Yuen even provide tips on living and working with the procrastinators you may know.

Wise, effective, and easy to use, this new edition shows why for 25 years Procrastination has been an immediate must-have for anyone who puts things off until tomorrow.

Excellent book

Judging it by its cover, this book looks excellent. I haven't got round to reading it yet though. Maybe next week.

I can't get to it.

It's probably a great book but I'll never know because I procrastinate too much to read it. I've cracked the cover but it was too much effort to read it. Maybe if they put naked people every other page or gave me some kind of incentive to read it I'd be better off with it but as of now I just don't know. Reading it is like doing work... Where's the nekkid pikatures or comics to hold my interest?

Rating :

Don't bother. Read "The Now Habit" instead.

This book is long on fluff and short on concrete advice. What useful advice it does contain is largely the same as in The Now Habit: A Strategic Program for Overcoming Procrastination and Enjoying Guilt-Free Play, a book half as long. I believe that the authors of this book worked at the UC Berkeley counseling center at the same time as Neil Fiore, who wrote the latter book. If that's a coincidence it's a pretty unlikely one.

The authors are also obsessed with procrastination caused by being the first in your family or community to go to college. I don't doubt that this is a real phenomenon, but it applies to maybe one one-hundredth of one percent of the potential readership.

Rating :

Too much talk and analysis and no cure for Procrastinators

It does a nice job analyzing why people procrastinate. Lot of whining, no solutions... A waste of my time and money.

Rating :

Best book on solving procrastination

The authors get into the psychology of procrastination, which no other book I have read does. This helps the reader get to the root of his or her problem. Although a few of the psychological explanations are tenuous at best, most of them are very good and will help many people understand their procrastination. The second part of the book gives actual methods to solve procrastination, which was explained psychologically in Part I. These methods are helpful and realistic (you are not expected to change overnight, and not even within weeks or months). The book was definitely worth the price.
