The "Child Within" refers to that part of each of us which is ultimately alive, energetic, creative and fulfilled; it is our real self-who we truly are.

Customer Review :

I've read better

The book has a good idea behind it. And it makes some good points. But I found it much more difficult to read that many other books of this type. Not "hard" difficult or anything like that. Difficult in the sense that the book just never caught my attention the way that other self help books have and I really had to force myself to keep reading. I don't think I got as much out of it as I could have simply because I had such a hard time paying attention.

Healing the Child Within

Healing the Child Within is a very readable, but concise guide to healing one's inner child no matter the person's age. I have been in therapy for a couple of years and have been to healing retreats, so I am quite familiar with most of the material presented. However, for me the book provided a review and reminder of just what it is I am doing. I highly recommend the book as a companion to therapy to be used slowly throughout the process so one is not overwhelmed.

If you really want to uncover some thruths about yourself,

I suggest you read this book. I often felt isolated and "different", not knowing why. Just reading through this book uncovered and healed much of my pain that I denied having for so long. This book has been a gift to me, helping me to understand myself and others much more, which is what I always really wanted. I felt so stuck, and this book along with a few other materials was a real lifechanger. It put into words what I didn't want to know, only to free me of the shame through acknowledgement. Truly a springboard to a better life!

Rating :

This book will help you feel

If you suffer from past trauma of abuse as a child, this book will help you feel things you may have not been able to feel before. Best to work with therapist or caring friend or partner. This book is 'gentle' enough to comfort you somewhat when doing the work but you will more than likely have feelings rush in waves inside you that may be more than you can control.

Editorial Review :

An award-winning journalist offers exhilarating tales of "late bloomers" who prove that it's never too late to sign a new lease on life

In today's world, the question "What should I do with my life?" only scratches the surface. Now, more and more people-from baby boomers retiring from their "first act" to people in their forties and fifties forced to reconsider their careers in this gloomy economy-are finding themselves wondering how to find new stimulation and meaningful work over a lifetime. Bringing together a diverse array of stories, veteran journalist Bruce Frankel brings to life a mesmerizing series of profiles of men and women who discovered a new calling, success, or purpose later in life. Brimming with inspiration and humanity, What Should I Do With the Rest of My Life? celebrates activists, artists, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, and others who found extraordinary ways to experience true fulfillment in the second half of life.

On these pages, readers will meet a civil servant, laid off at age fifty-two, who enrolled in graduate school, earning a Ph.D. in psychology; a former consultant who began a microfinance program in Africa; a longtime contact-lens grinder who has chisled twelve hundred stone heads on a property now known as the "Easter Island of the Hudson"; and many others who proved that age is a spark-not a barrier. Full of spirit and plenty of chutzpah, this book shows that anything is possible in any stage of life.

Customer Review :

Compelling inspiring page-turner

What Should I Do with the Rest of My Life? is a compelling and inspirational book. Though non-fiction, author Bruce Frankel has produced a page-turner. The people who animate these true stories are at once ordinary and extraordinary. Each chapter, from one about a housewife who rebels against her authoritarian banker-husband and religious strictures by opening a museum of erotic art, to one about a widower who becomes an award winning writer as he approaches his 100th birthday, is touched by the magic of passionate people who refuse to quit. They are determined to bestow their dreams upon world. In them, we encounter not only ourselves, but our better selves. We mourn their losses and are cheered by their triumphs.

Boomers take heart! Indeed, everyone-- young or old-- struggling in these tough times, should read this book. It left me craving more -- more profiles, more lessons, more hope. This is a great gift book! Mr. Frankel, a sequel, please!

It's never too late to go on with your life.

What Should I Do With the Rest of My Life? By Bruce Frankel, is a book that chronicles the lives of people who are well past retirement age, and who are ready to begin what would be the "end" of their lives. It is a difficult idea to write that these people were actually at the end of anything, since they were obviously at the age where anyone would have retired, but they kept going. And found new ways to redefine themselves and who they are, and pick up where they left off looking for the answer to their life's dreams.

We all know that it is possible to pick ourselves up again after a personal loss, a bankruptcy or a tragedy. In these stories there are heart-warming moments and people who had the strength to pursue their lives at any age. There is the story of a teacher who started off as a substitute and went on to teach in schools where she was needed the most. At sixty-eight years old, she is making a difference in the lives of her students. Another story centers on an inventor who had success, then had setbacks because of a mismanagement error at a company she trusted. Eventually she prevailed, but not without some soul searching as to what she really wanted and what success would really be worth to her.

Each story tells of the men and women who overcame the odds, and their stories are an inspiration for us all. In these times of a downturned economy, anyone at any age can learn to reinvent who he or she is to find a new career or a new place in the job market. Success can be found anywhere and it is there for the taking.

good service

The book arrived aS SCHEDULED AND IN THE CONDITION THE SELLER STATED IT WOULD. I HAD NO PROBLEMS.

Never Finished It

This was recommended by my therapist at the time. Doing the left-handed stuff was kinda fun (and difficult), but it didn't keep my interest as don't most self-help books these days.

I think the reason I lost interest in this book is because I AM my inner child! lol I wasn't needing a book to bring that out of me.

Inner Child

I got this recommended by a friend who had been on a healing week for abused children in Australia. This book reinforces what I learnt on that week. I recommend it to anyone who is wanting and needing help to overcome inner child issues.

To buy for loved ones after working it yourself!

Once I began working with this book, I purchased it as a gift for a friend of mine. If I could afford to, I would buy one for everyone I loved. There is much healing as a result of connecting with our Inner Child, in a creative, fun, entertaining, self-loving way. This book, is that way... I continue to enjoy working with it. I ALWAYS feel genuinely connected to my True Self when I do the exercises.

Terrific material to help recover that which was lost.

I've done a lot of Inner Child work and this ranks among the best of the
literature I've used. Highly recommended to anyone. We ALL have some kind
of inner child wounding...even if we were "overloved!"....
Great exercises. A useful tool for healing.

Erika Chopich and Margaret Paul show how anyone can reconnect with his or her Inner Child to short-circuit self-destructive patterns, resolve fears and conflicts, and build satisfying relationships. Healing Your Aloneness outlines a self-healing process that can be used every day to restore a nurturing balance between loving Adult and loved Inner Child.

Customer Review :

I'd highly recommend this book.

I am a big fan of Margaret Paul. This book was especially meaningful to me and a great help in my work on healing my inner pain.

A Must-Read!

I picked this book up a few years ago and immediately felt the change. It gave me tools to improve my self-esteem, while also showing me that I've been giving all my power to others. It helped me to realize I needed to look inward to find what I was always searching for. I still go back to this book when I need a reminder and it still hits me. The lessons I've learned from it have stayed with me over the years. This book has played a huge part in my growth process and I highly recommend it!

Healing Your Aloneness

This book is such a gift, takes a while for the average person to work through maybe. But such a great resource for someone who is working on a better understanding of oneself & how to bring about positive changes in their life. It has helped me tremendously.

Wonderful book

This book is tremendous to help to heal the wounds inside. I rate it 100 stars

BRILLIANT

If you grew up in a normal household, with a happy, perfect family,
and have little to no problems, you might not need this book.

BUT if you grew up in a tumultuous household, with family that had
issues and you have issues because of all of that, then DEFINITELY
get this book. It will help to heal you.

I can also recommend it to people who were molested (as I was) and
for people who are dating/married/friends with people who have/had
problems or family issues.

It is a bit older but still relevant and helpful.

May I also recommend FEELING GOOD: THE NEW MOOD THERAPY?

Pick them up!

Editorial Review :

This book is designed as a gentle, step-by-step guide for re-parenting the inner child during the first seven stages of life: as an infant, a toddler, a young child, a grade school child, a young teen, a young adolescent, and a young adult. Using a wide range of tools to do this inner work, the reader is led to explore the issues of grief, shame, and loss at each of the seven stages.

Customer Review :

The Inner Child Workbook

I did not find this book to be a helpful resource for my clients who have had difficult or painful childhood experiences. In many cases the exercises in this book require a greater degree of affect tolerance than the client has at her disposal. The consequence for the reader using this strictly as a self-help book, easily could be emotional overwhelm, and reinforcement of poor self-esteem as the reader continues to wonder what is wrong with her; this time because she cannot accomplish the tasks outlined in this workbook.

Rating :

This book is a classic in its field!

After many other books on inner child work have come and gone, I keep coming back to this one. The author has given what is arguably the most complete map of the inner child work that has ever been written. To have instructions like this, that take us gently into our own inner mythology is a rare gift. If God/Goddess had commissioned an instruction manual for how to navigate these inner territories, it would have been this one. Come to think of it, maybe that's what happened! For anyone interested in doing really solid inner child work, this book is one they must read and DO! There's the potential for so much healing, and ultimately inner peace in this book!

RELEASE THE ENERGIES THAT HOLD YOU IN LIMBO

There's a difference of talking of what your traumas (no matter how significant)are, and actually releasing the feelings and energies that accompany them. If you're really ready to get your life going and become a whole person, this book will do it. Once you've looked at the inner feelings and dealt with them, you're on your way to whatever you want of yourself. Talk about opening doors. You're worth it.

Rating :

Thorough and compassionate

I really enjoyed this book, I found it thorough and empathic. The reader is lead through the many stages of childhood with compassion and given helpful exercises to overcome issues and obstacles present at each stage. The ability to understand the child is well presented by the author. As with psychotherapy generally it is more helpful to work with a therapist, this book is a great beginner or would work well alongside psychotherapy sessions.

Rating :

INSIGHTFUL

I thought overall that the book was very good at helping me recognize the roots to the problems in my adult life. As a sexual abuse survivor, it has opened the doors to the little child inside of me that needs to feel safe and loved. It was very easy to read and easy to understand. The only negative thing I would have to say about the book is that it was very thorough on addressing the roots of problems, but not necessarily on what you can do now to overcome them. (But I suppose that's another story......)
