Imagine...

If you've any of Max Lucado's other books you know he has a distinct style and rhythm to everything he writes,Äîand I love it. This book is no different.

From the moment I picked it up, I was engaged. The first chapter had me wiping away tears. If you're feeling anxiety or pressure in your life because of layoffs at work, slowdowns in the economy, housing market losses, and every other fear that haunts, this book is for you. Full review at [...]

Fear, we all have it. Overcome it

Fear, we all have it. In his latest book, Fearless, Mac Lucado helps bring our everyday fears to the surface. Encouraging readers to live a life full of faith, not fear. A life where trust is in God, and God alone.
Fearless spoke to some of the worries that I have on a daily basis. It was inspiring to read biblical teachings related to those worries/fears and hope for giving them to God. Each chapter made me dig deeper into my own life and how I deal with these fears. Being a Mom of young children the chapter that spoke to me the most was "My Child Is in Danger."

There is a discussion guide at the end of the book which helps readers to dive deeper into scripture. The guide can be utilized as a group or on your own, helping the reader to work through the ideas in the book. During these times when everything seems to be up in the air with jobs and housing, Fearless will help to bring hope and encouragement to anyone who reads it.

Another fantastic Max Lucado book!

What if you lived your life by faith and not fear? Why is it that we fear anything and everything, even though deep down we know God has it all? Terrorism, the economy, when our children are away from us, layoffs, etc... things we can't control and yet we tend to forget that God can. True to his style, Max Lucado takes you through different reasons for our fears and how we can live without them with engaging stories, both from life and the bible.

I have always enjoyed the writings of Max Lucado. I still remember the first book I ever read of his, He Chose the Nails. His way of intertwining scripture truths with stories, some true, some fictional, in short to-the-point chapters makes this book hard to put down but easy to read. The message is clear...overcome your fears by letting Jesus take them for you! Almost every chapter spoke to me in a personal way. "Fear of not protecting your kids", "Fear of not mattering", "Fear of Getting out of my box", he covers it all and in the process, reminds me so gently that I don't have to bear the burden of fear. God is God, He's got it under control. I just have to trust.

I encourage you, whether you have read every Max Lucado book written or if you have never read one, pick this book up. It's a short book, as they always are, and you never feel as if you reading a "self-help" book. You feel like you are just reading an e-mail from a friend. You will be encouraged and challenged to let go of your fears.

Excellent read for a fearful world

This book is a great read for anybody because everybody has fears that they deal with. "Fearless" shows us that there is no reason to fear because our Father God has our backs in every situation. Max Lucado, one of my favorite Christian authors, reminds us that God has and will defeat all of our enemies, even death. So what is there really to fear if you are one of God's children?

Good reading for anyone who struggles with anxiety

First I need to offer a disclaimer. I'm not a huge Lucado fan. He writes enormously popular books that seem to me relentlessly cheery. He's never seemed very real to me. So, seeing the title, some part of me wondered what he would do with a topic that, by its nature, requires some depth, and I gave it a try.

You won't find anything too groundbreaking in this book. The way to overcome fear is to choose to believe that God is in control and loves you, even when circumstances are screaming just the opposite. Lucado is at his most convincing when he gets personal and admits his own doubts and struggles, but that's not much of the book. I didn't come away from reading the book thinking that I knew Max Lucado all that much better than I did before.

But looking back at it, the book does have its attractions. It's full of good, relevant Biblical passages. The group study guide at the end has some terrific, practical techniques to address anxiety. And you get some sense that fearfulness, even for Christians, is part of life. The fact that we all share this, that it's part of the human experience, and that Jesus addressed it over and over, brings some comfort in itself. We are not alone. Lucado doesn't condemn fear as a lack of faith, and he doesn't trivialize it. But he points out that the God of the Bible has said that despite our troubles, we don't need to fear. God is in control.

Now You’re Talking!
Do you want to be bulletproof at work, secure in your relationship, and content in your own skin? If so, it’s more important than ever to be aware of what your body is saying to the outside world. Unfortunately, most of what you’ve heard from other body language experts is wrong, and, as a result, your actions may be hurting, not helping, you.

With sass and a keen eye, media favorite Janine Driver teaches you the skills she used every day to stay alive during her fifteen years as a body-language expert at the ATF. Janine’s 7-day plan and her 7-second solutions teach you dozens of body language fixes to turn any interpersonal situation to your advantage. She reveals methods here that other experts refuse to share with the public, and she debunks major myths other experts swear are fact:

Giving more eye contact is key when you’re trying to impress someone.
Not necessarily true. It’s actually more important where you point your belly button. This small body shift communicates true interest more powerfully than constant eye contact.

The “steeple” hand gesture will give you the upper hand during negotiations and business meetings. Wrong. Driver has seen this overbearing gesture backfire more often than not. Instead, she suggests two new steeples that give you power without making you seem overly aggressive: the Basketball Steeple and the A-OK Two-Fingered Steeple.

Happy people command power and attention by smiling just before they meet new people.
Studies have shown that people who do this are viewed as Beta Leaders. Alpha leaders smile once they shake your hand and hear your name.

At a time when every advantage counts—and first impressions matter more than ever—this is the book to help you really get your message across.

Customer Review :

Pretty saavy stuff.

I've been a student of body language since 1967 when I read an article about signs women give off when they were looking for or are interested in a man. While that turned out to be completely wrong, You Say More Than you Think: A 7 Day Plan for Using The New Body Language to Get What You Want by Janine Driver is a sure fire outline for mastering the "unspoken" language we all converse in and use everyday.

Organized in chapters that correspond to Days, topics include The Belly Button Rule (day 2), Work Your Naughty Bits (day 3), Move to the Right Side (day 4), Power Gestures (day 5), and perhaps the most useful to me The QWQ Formula (day 7). Also very useful are the perhaps hundreds of photographs provided that demonstrate the points. I also liked the included "7-Second Fixes" and "Power Team Turnaround" sections that are scattered throughout the book.

You Say More Than You Think reminds a just a bit of a text book (not in a bad way) with inserts and demonstrations included that are extremely helpful.

If you're interested in effected communication and using what you have in the most effective way, then this is a book you'll want to spend some time with.

Peace to all.

New fun at work

Ms Driver suggests a series of exercises to make her concepts stick. It is fun to make conscious choices about what I project and to watch my colleagues in meetings. It's a quick read - and I found myself trusting the authors' experience and advice. Bottom line, I have told three people about this book already.

Good Material, but The suggestions and exercises leave a lot to be desired

This book rocks with it's content and what it's teaching. I learned how to norm my boss and already asked for some great stuff! I love that. The Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes idea is great. She really breaks it down pretty well.

The BIG downside is she seems to have little respect for the readers time and finances. The first chapter says you need about 2 hours a day, for 7 days. I thought that was doable. But what I didn't expect was all the crazy suggestions: Buy a Nintendo, Go Skydiving, Sign up for Belly Dancing Lessons, Sign up for Salsa dancing, etc... Also if you were going to do this in 7 days and go to work, how would you get into any of the classes for find the time to go skydiving all within your "7 day makeover/"

She also mixes it up with home alone exercises and wome work out in public. I thought it would be more observation inside and out. But it requires: Staring at a painting at a museum for 30 Minutes for example... this takes at least an hour and I'm supposed to read and do 2-3 more exercises? Get a friend to come over and rollplay while you videotape, this one would take at least an hour... SO I find it's just not realisic or well thought out so I find that frusterating.

Bottom Line though, the content is good, just don't expect to be able to do her exercises the way she suggests unless you have a lot of extra cash and tons of free time...Oh and a video camera and friends that are available at the drop of a hat.

An incredible book and an incredible program.

When I worked with Janine as a member of the Body Language Power Team (that's me on page 201), I was amazed at the audacious goal of putting the incredble program into a book. I thought, for sure, that some of the meat of the program would have to be left out.

Then I read the book.

Not only did Janine manage to fit every ounce of information into the book in a fun and easy-to-read way, she added more information on top of it. Burn all of your other body language books. The NEW body language is the only thing you need to know. My life has changed so much in the time since I worked with Janine, and if you follow the program in this book, you won't be able to help but make similar progress yourself.

Lots of Helpful Tips

Janine was the keynote at my organization's conference a few years back. After seeing her speak, I've started gain a real interest in body language. Out of all the books and information I have read or seen, this is definitely one of the best. After purchasing it a few days ago and reading through it, I've found a large amount of simple but surprising tips and tricks. One of my favorites is the the belly button rule, it helps me read other people im interacting with, while at the same time helping me focus my attention on the person I'm talking to. After reading the book, I have come to find that I may have been sending a lot of the wrong signals with my body position, the rules and other information gathered from the book has started to change my interactions with people.

Good but not great

I found Joe Navarro to be long winded and not that witty in his explanations. Yes, he does make valid points and the book is peppered with FBI anecdotes but its more like reading prose. Besides, dont we want a book that will teach us the details we will encounter in everyday life, rather than in an interrogation room where stresses are magnified.

The Definitive Guide to Body Language is a much better read. It is more concise and contains more information. Its funnier too. Having said all this, I give it three stars because it is a good book. Just not a great one.

Nail in the coffin over a book?

I find it fascinating that there are several "law eneforcement" personnel here, all giving HIGH praise to this book. And, of course ALL stating that they will be utilizing the techniques described in the book. As if most haven't been trained on this non verbal "body" language technique as it stands. But, what I find DISTURBING is the idea that SOME of these very same LE's are going to SOLEY use body communications as their "basis" for guilt. Because let's face it, ALL cops think that people are guilty no matter what the circumstances are.... period! There is NO presumption of innocence in a cops eyes. And, this book shows the obvious DANGEROUS pattern of automatically ASSUMING a person's "guilt" just based on what they read in a book. Of course, no one really discusses the fact that our bodies may make uncontrollable or brain triggered reactions simply based on one's own natural style or movement. AND, SOME, based on a person's HEALTH! You can have people that suffer nervous disorders, neurological and the like. But, the LE person may not know that, because it's not like we ALL walk around telling people our health status on cue. But, the LE person will just ASSUME the "tick" or "reaction" is that of "GUILT" or "CONFESSION" thereof, when in fact it is simply the person's natural being and movements. And, some, are BECAUSE of the HEALTH issues a person may have. But, do the police or feds think abotu that? No. Do they consider all this? No. This is WHY the LE persons need to NOT rely on this technique and ACTUALLY get off their butts and GO DO THE WORK to FIND the "evidence". Just my thougths on this. And, NO I am not a ex con or anything or the like. I just see a ton of abuse by law enforcement and see how easy it is to put the nail in the coffin of someone if they really want to. And that persons life is turned upside down even though they are innocent. BUt, they'l lare "tagged" by LE as being different and there you have it. The planning of the "execution" of the persons innocence, life, emotions, well being, are all killed over an ideology? WOW! Why just hand it to them because someone may scratch their neck, or look to the left? This is such a disturbing trend the police are using and getting out of control with!

What most other people say.

As most of the reviews in the page suggest, this book is quite an interesting book to read. Although one might consider parts of the book to be common sense, or think that some of the images in the book are too exaggerated (that they are not realistic), I believe everyone reading this would at least gain something from the book.

Navarro is quite a good writer. The way he lays things out and his explanation are quite clear. There are some minor typing mistakes and slight repetitions throughout the book, but they do not affect the overall quality of the content of the book.

"An exemplary and eloquently written story that makes it easy for nonbelievers in intuition to believe. You must read this book." – Psychology Today

Now with a new foreword from the author, New York Times bestselling author Dr. Judith Orloff tells her remarkable life story and teaches you how to recognize and trust your own intuitive gifts to improve your life—and the lives of those around you.

In this updated edition, Dr. Orloff reflects on her career and the sea change that modern medicine and psychiatry have experienced since Second Sight was first published.  She expands her earlier ideas and further explores intuition’s role in maintaining physical health and emotional well-being, using examples from her own and her patients’ lives. This is both a remarkable self-portrait of one woman’s journey toward the acceptance of intuition as a therapeutic tool, and a comprehensive look at how you, too, can develop your intuition, transform your health, and revolutionize your everyday life.

"Orloff is a true visionary. She is the kind of physician we wish we all had." – Caroline Myss, Ph.D., author of Sacred Contracts

"Second Sight is a page turner...controversial. It shares the struggles and successes of a courageous physician who fights against a skeptical medical system to validate the power of intuition. You will find a new friend in Judith as her writing is as intimate as if she was talking to you in her living room." —Joan Borysenko, Ph.D., author of Mending the Mind, Minding the Spirit

"Judith Orloff is a seriously talented storyteller, and her book moves like a thriller...Forgive me this moment of intuition, but this book feels right." –Jesse Kornbluth, Huffington Post

Customer Review :

I Can Breathe Now

It's like I can take a deep breath and relax now. Someone once asked me "How do you feel when you enter a room where there's a lot of fighting and anger?" My immediate response was: "I recoil and want to run out of there." I thought everybody felt this way. Granted we all feel things up to a certain level, but the notion that I feel more than most never occurred to me. Doesn't everyone? I thought. Learning I was not alone in my experiences was a huge relief and revelation to me. When I read Dr. Orloff's book I felt I had found me. I now knew who I was and could now just simply enjoy what once seemed like a curse. Feeling everything like I have been up to date without understanding it is "crazy making." I now realized no, it's a blessing, I have been given a whole 'nother level of awareness and depth. It is powerful. Hearing Dr. Orloff explain it through sharing her life- it blew the barn doors open. She talks openly about all her experiences as well as how she deeply respects her gifts and how she has combined these with traditional methodologies. Yes, there is a feeling of "safety" that she has credentials when reading this, but for me the true safety comes in how Dr. Orloff has chosen to use her gifts and live her life. She deeply respects what she has and is grateful for it. She does not misuse what she has and adds seriousness and credibility to her spiritual gifts.

I bought a copy of this book for my sister as she feels things on the hyper-sensitive scale as I. My sister gets massive migraines and has been taking medication to manage this. After reading Dr. Orloff's story and learned how she went through a phase of medicating herself to "escape" until she new what to do with what she had been given, I related this to my sister. She opened up to me and told me more things that she had experienced as a child. I now hope that my sister will be able to understand herself an accept and enjoy these gifts she has been given.

As far as I'm concerned Dr. Orloff is opening doors for people and allowing everyone to relax as well as respect a whole arena of the human experience that typically gets shunned, and until very recently even went punished. And the biggest tragedy of all is that these gifts have gone unused, denied and ignored by many and dismissed as sillyness or even crazyness of some kind. With this openess and understanding of what is really going on many can now not waste what they have been blessed with and can live incredibly rich, powerful lives. There's nothing to reject or push away. In fact, this is cause for celebration. Thank you for sharing your story, Dr. Orloff.

Second Sight Review

I have rarely read a book that has touched me so deeply. This is a story of the journey of one woman who has a gift. She develops this gift slowly, but surely throughout her life. It is the gift of healing, among other things. Judith Orloff takes the reader through her rough teenage years, when she felt like an outcast amongst her peers. She felt her gift made her damaged in some way. Yet she goes through this time with courage and grace.

We already know Judith is a prominent psychiatrist, so I'm giving nothing away by saying that she decided to become one so she could integrate her medical practice with her healing gift. Unfortunately things didn't go exactly as she planned, which she discusses quite aptly in this book.

Her story is unique and her writing is flawless. She teaches us even as she discovers herself through her writing. I learned so much from this book. For one, I learned that everyone has this innate healing ability. I have used it myself and it does work. Judith makes sure the reader realizes that she is not unique in this way. In fact, she encourages others to reach out and try this work for yourself.

I think a lot of people would get a lot out of reading this book. Judith is a courageous woman with much to say about her incredible life and what it has taught her. We see her grow into a very powerful woman and healer. I was hooked by the first few paragraphs, and all the way to the end. She had me mesmerized from the very beginning. Her story is so incredibly unique. I think very few people would regret reading this wonderful story. She is in a league of her own as far as books go. I can't even think of another book that compares to this one. I was highly impressed. Her writing style is unique and you can envision the scenes she paints quite vividly.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is even slightly interested in the healing arts.

Lovely insights into the "sensitive" mind

This book reads like a novel and is filled with wisdom besides. I loved reading about Orloff's adolescence in 1960s Los Angeles and what it was like to be the psychic child of two prominent medical doctors. She helped me be grateful for my own intuition and for this gift in others.

Tapping into Your Own Inner Wisdom

Don't walk, run to buy Judith Orloff's book. Judith tells her personal story revealing the developmental stages and steps she took in her "coming out" as an intuitive healer.

The author takes professional and personal risk in revealing her intuitive gifts through her story telling. Judith hid her intuitions behind closed doors during her medical training and practice in an attempt to maintain her professional medical image. Judith was born to physician parents who regarded her intuitive gifts as something to be kept secret. As a young woman Judith took part in research that smacked of "woo woo". After medical training she entered into the more conservative aspects of being a physician attempting to block her own nature and ultimately finding that she could not maintain that stance. For her own good and ultimately for the good of her patients (one of whom attempted suicide but lived)she found the her own unique path to acceptance not only claiming her intuitive gifts but sharing them with others as paths to healing and transformative change.

The Way of Intuition: A Book Review of Second Sight

Dr. Judith Orloff's new book Second Sight, is a fascinating memoir of her journey to come to terms with her psychic intuition. From the time young Judith is a child, she is dreaming and foreseeing future events, the illnesses and deaths of relatives and family friends. As a teenager she has a near death experience during a car accident where she enters the tunnel and sees the light.

Always discouraged by her social-conscious mother, Judith is afraid of her own powers until she becomes part of an experimental research teamin L.A. and meets others with developing psychic powers. Each chapter brings more and more insight into her experiences until she recognizes that all humanity has the power now to cultivate new senses.

I was especially drawn to this book as it is in the same genre as my own memoir. What is important about books in this category is that readers get to validate their own experiences. Many of us are out of the closet now in full support of the new era upon which humanity is embarking, which is actually a return to an esoteric age we had lost touch with. Let me quote Dr. Orloff here as her own words are most prophetic:

"We have come full circle. Our earliest ancestors passed on a rich intuitive heritage: prophets, oracles, shamans, healers make up a vital portion of our history. Yet as the Age of Exploration took off and science became revered, what had been considered natural for so many thousands of years was then labeled superstitious nonsense or condemned as the work of the devil. Seers were deemed to be witches and burned at the stake for their so-called crimes. Later, industry and technology--focused always on rational explanation--drove more nails in the coffin of intuition."

This book is a must read for all of us, those who have tapped into their powers, and those who may find these ideas suspect. Dr. Orloff's life study is documentary proof that seers are not charlatans cloaked in turbans gazing into crystal balls, and her argument is that every one of us can develop highly sensitive intuition that will be useful in medicine and the transformation of our society.

Recently a new review of my memoir, The Future That Brought Her Here; Memoir of a Call to Awaken, was posted on Amazon.com. This person, T. Ruth, said "I am so grateful that Deborah had the courage to share her personal story with the world in such a detailed, thoughtful, honest, loving way." This fan emailed me personally on Facebook to say her husband had also read my book and was anxious to begin developing his feminine side, or the feminine way of knowing. In moments like that I feel so blessed to have had the impulse to share my knowledge and research into human esoteric history.

Judith Orloff calls for the same goal that I encourage in my book, an integration of intellect and intuition. I recommend this book with no reservations. It reads like a novel, an adventure story with an encouraging ending.
". . . now at the edge of the twenty-first century, there is an increasing movement of people who realize how much of our soul we've sacrificed. That split just isn't necessary. Envision a furture where all of our analystical accomplishments and the intuitive work hand in hand--realizing the best of both worlds. That's where I believe we're headed."

Amen, I say to that. And so it is

Editorial Review :

Enlightenment is not something that can just be handed to you. The closest thing to it that you can receive are thoughts and questions that can lead you inward in the search for meaning. What Does That Mean? is full of thoughts and questions that do just that. Some insights you may have thought of and then forgotten, and others you may have experienced but simply haven’t appreciated.

An old saying asserts that the value of a book is not in what it says but rather in what it does. What Does That Mean? is one of those books that will have a lifetime impact on all who read it. The book squarely faces the many inconsistencies held in our systems of belief, from the sciences to psychic phenomena. Eldon Taylor is willing to speak out without reservation, and without avoiding any so-called sanctities. The result is absolutely thought-provoking at every level, as this work addresses the meaning of life and the ultimate “humanness” of the human being. If you have ever questioned the nature of life, the power of the mind, unexplained events, and other mysteries, you will find this book totally riveting.

Throughout these pages, Eldon shares life experiences that will lead you to revelations about your own life. Perhaps this book’s greatest value is that it assists you in remembering who you really are and thereby places you firmly back on the path to personal enlightenment. English writer and poet Joseph Addison, said, “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.” If that is the case, then this book is the perfect workout to enrich your thinking. You may not always like what you read, but you will always find the depth of thought wholly provocative.

Customer Review :

Why Mr. Taylor?

Why would the author cheapen such a powerful thought provoking book by strategically inserting his political bias throughout the book. Was that his primary intent? What does it all mean when the author tells us how much our thoughts are, and can be manipulated...and we continue to read? Near the beginning of the book, I felt so good about the stories he shared with us.I in-turn shared many of them with my family and friends. We travel a lot, sometimes in two vehicles. When I told my family about the tire and wheel incident, my wife and I both looked at each other. We had a similar experience and we both asked at that time, and still do... how could that happen and what does it all mean? That internal place that I went while reading the book was a place that I felt I wanted to go. However, as I continued to read, I did not like the nagging feeling that Taylor's political views were as important to this work as his powerfully provocative questions. I don't think that his political views had anything to do with his train wreck or his destroyed tire and wheel. Or does it?

Don't Miss It!

Wow--what a read!!! The idea of a book as an experience is not new, but this experience is! Just when I thought I was comfortable with "knowing" a little about myself the shutters were thrown open by "What Does That Mean?" and the light nearly blinded me. Sometimes the intensity was so great that I felt like throwing the book--but I didn't, I stayed with it and I do not regret that decision one tiny little bit. This book will provoke you, it will cause you to cry, it will bring laughter and joy to you, and much more--but what it won't do is allow you to remain status quo.

Eldon asks over and over again throughout the book, "What does that mean?" When you have read it all, perhaps even twice like I did, you will find that the answer is all about you. He paraphrases time and again the idea that we should know ourselves and he writes in such a way that it is difficult, if at all possible, to avoid looking squarely at who we are and how we became that.

In the end, the read is inspiring, absolutely uplifting and full of hope. There are miracles and moments that just cause your skin to bubble with goose bumps. This is a great read--don't miss it!

Very Enlightening! I highly recommend this book!

What Does That Mean is full of amazing stories and insights regarding the meaning of life. Eldon's intriguing questions will have you looking inside yourself for the answers. Once you start reading, you won't be able to put it down!

Excellent read - makes you really think about who you are!

I LOVED this book. It is so very different to Taylor's previous books but at the same time, it is the natural progression. In Choices and Illusions and Mind Programming, Eldon shows us how other's can (and do) manipulate our thoughts and choices. In What Does That Mean he provides numerous examples of common beliefs we all have that make absolutely no sense. It is hard to deny the value of his previous books once you have read What Does That Mean? Who am I if my beliefs are not my own and make no sense at all? This is an invaluable addition to my library.

According to Dr. Eldon Taylor's most thought provoking work to date, our perception of reality is ever in flux and is always relative to our conditioning, experiences, belief systems, our willingness to open our hearts and minds to new paradigms, and whether or not we live in fear or love. This autobiographical tale reveals how one of the most brilliant minds in America came to question reality and the value and purpose of our multilevel perceptions. Each new reality initiates a journey into a new trajectory of soul expansion, and more importantly brings one to the comprehension that we create our own realities.
