"Clear some space on your bookshelf for Mitch Albom's, Have a Little Faith, the story of a faith journey that could become a classic. Those who were born into faith, have lost faith, or are still searching will all be engaged and challenged by this powerful story of "finding faith" in relationships with others and with something greater than ourselves. Never satisfied with easy answers or soft platitudes, Mitch explores some of life's greatest mysteries and unanswered questions with great honesty, depth and self reflection. " --Jim Wallis, CEO and Founder of Sojourners and author of The Great Awakening What if our beliefs were not what divided us, but what pulled us together? In Have a Little Faith, Mitch Albom offers a beautifully written story of a remarkable eight-year journey between two worlds--two men, two faiths, two communities--that will inspire readers everywhere. Albom's first nonfiction book since Tuesdays with Morrie, Have a Little Faith begins with an unusual request: an eighty-two-year-old rabbi from Albom's old hometown asks him to deliver his eulogy. Feeling unworthy, Albom insists on understanding the man better, which throws him back into a world of faith he'd left years ago. Meanwhile, closer to his current home, Albom becomes involved with a Detroit pastor--a reformed drug dealer and convict--who preaches to the poor and homeless in a decaying church with a hole in its roof. Moving between their worlds, Christian and Jewish, African-American and white, impoverished and well-to-do, Albom observes how these very different men employ faith similarly in fighting for survival: the older, suburban rabbi embracing it as death approaches; the younger, inner-city pastor relying on it to keep himself and his church afloat. As America struggles with hard times and people turn more to their beliefs, Albom and the two men of God explore issues that perplex modern man: how to endure when difficult things happen; what heaven is; intermarriage; forgiveness; doubting God; and the importance of faith in trying times. Although the texts, prayers, and histories are different, Albom begins to recognize a striking unity between the two worlds--and indeed, between beliefs everywhere. In the end, as the rabbi nears death and a harsh winter threatens the pastor's wobbly church, Albom sadly fulfills the rabbi's last request and writes the eulogy. And he finally understands what both men had been teaching all along: the profound comfort of believing in something bigger than yourself. Have a Little Faith is a book about a life's purpose; about losing belief and finding it again; about the divine spark inside us all. It is one man's journey, but it is everyone's story. Ten percent of the profits from this book will go to charity, including The Hole In The Roof Foundation, which helps refurbish places of worship that aid the homeless.

everyone should read this
This book was Mitch Alboms best. It taught me more about life and the way it should be lived. I would compare this book to Og Mandino but this was real life. I will heartily recommend this to every one I know and will be given as a gift to all my loved ones. When a book changes your life and makes you rethink how you will spend the rest of your time here this is pretty profound. This book was truly a gift and gets me excited for tomorrow. Amazing thought provoking book.

Ends Up Being a Book About a Lot of Faith
Loved this little book. The contrast between the lives of the rabbi and the minister were striking. One having faith all of his life, the other coming to faith later in life. Yet, for both, the bottom line was serving and believing their God. I absolutely loved the Rabbi's insight and words of wisdom. The book was motivating and inspiring. Great, great book.

Pretty good.
What I liked about it was the readability of the book. It presents bio stuff very well for the general public. At the same time, I also felt it cheapens the value of real science to some extent. Still a good book on understanding that our brain is well integrated with the body and some practical guidance for better health and better life. People who keep themselves somewhat informed should know this from various sources. I'm a yoga practitioner and yoga philosophy says body, mind and spirit are all intertwined - for centuries, not decades. If you like this book, you'll probably like Deepak Chopra's Ageless Body, Timeless Mind: The Quantum Alternative to Growing Old, written in a pretty motivational style with some good exercises. You might also like Sunil Sheoran's Mylife Framework: A Model For A Successful Life Based On The Yoga Principles. This one is not for masses, but a no BS guide on how to live well with yoga thoughts, more on life, not much on heath. Good luck.

A Valuable, Well-Written Book
In "Change Your Brain, Change Your Body" Dr. Amen explains how he has used SPECT imaging to study the blood flow and activity patterns in the brain. SPECT is an acronym for single photon emission computed tomography.
He offers many examples of how he has used SPECT to obtain critical information about the brain function of his patients, and determine the best treatment to help those individuals to overcome a wide variety of problems, from depression to obesity to colds and headaches. The book makes use of illustrations of brain scans taken before and after treatment at Amen's clinics. He clearly explains how he interprets these scans, and how he determines the appropriate treatment for an individual.
Dr. Amen presents 15 solutions to assist you in boosting your brain to enable you to attain and maintain the kind of body and sense of well-being you have always wanted. Among the many benefits that can be derived by learning to love your brain and apply the easy-to-follow solutions are increased energy, sharper memory function, and relief from unwanted stress.
Sounds to good to be true? Not really. I can attest to many of the strategies and techniques this book offers because I have used them and taught them with amazing results for four decades. What's really new and different about Dr.Amen's approach is that he is employing some recently discovered scientific diagnostic equipment such as SPECT along with his unique treatments.
Back in the 1980's, I presented health conferences at the University of Minnesota and other colleges featuring "pioneers" in using the brain/mind for healing, and maintaining good health. Participants in those conferences included Norman Cousins, O.Carl Simonton, Bernie Siegel, Deloris Krieger, Norman Shealy, Raymond Moody, Gerald Jampolsky Karl Menninger, etal. Dr. Amen is to be congratulated for building on their work and currently being on the cutting edge of discoveries and treatment in this field. The world could use more like him.
This is a valuable, well-written book, and deserves five stars.

This really works!
I have been struggling with weight-loss for the past 8 years. I have tried everything from diet pills to hypnosis. I am a veteran so you would think I already had the background to exercise properly and eat right, but this simply is not true. After I had my children, something in me changed. I no longer wanted to deal with life, and it was almost as if I was stuck in a depression state without any exits. I purchased the audio-book version of Magnificent Mind at Any Age: Natural Ways to Unleash Your Brain's Maximum Potential by Dr. Amen, and was impressed from the start. My husband and children noticed the difference in me after I started taking the St. Wort and L-Tyrosine supplements. I was on GABA already for a different reason, but the combination of these three items helped regulate my mood.
Then this wonderful book came out. I was eager to read it since I already had success with a previous book by Dr. Amen. I immediately put a lot of ideas into action. For instance, I maintained my intake of the supplements, plus I found a way to get back into exercising. I love to do research on my computer, so my husband brought me a special stand for it. This way I can exercise on my stationary bike while working on my computer at the same time. This motivated me to continue on with other positive things for my body, like eating more fruits and vegetables too. This book will go into detail about how to improve your attitude (brain) in order to affect a positive change in your life. Just to let you know, I went from 251 @ 5'8" to 228 in eight weeks. I achieved this by riding my bike slowly while reading this book, and/or working on my computer. Order your copy today, because I have read this book four times already and I learn something new every time.

Amazing Book!
Dr. Amen's new book, "Change Your Brain Change Your Body", is a great book to have as a reference on hand to anyone who has struggled to lose weight in the past. It presents scientific reasoning behind why individuals have such a difficult time when trying the latest and most popular diets but it is written so that you do not have to be a medical doctor to understand it! Once you read this book, you will be able to understand how your particular brain functioning will help you to lose the weight and gain a more healthy lifestyle.
As a Neuropsychologist, I have found it very valuable to help many of my patients deal not only with weight issues, but also hormonal imbalances, anxiety and depression. Understanding your brain type and how is can affect so many different aspects of your life is critical to the first steps in recovery. The chapters on the skin, hormone and skin solution are fabulous! A lot of my patients suffer with sleep issues, are stressed out and think in a very negative way. This book is fabulous in that it explains why these issues are key factors not only in the way you feel emotionally and cognitively but why they affect your weight as well!
I would definitely recommend that every therapist have this book in their bookcase and every patient have one at home!

Great message, funny voice effect
There's nothing new about the concept "be here now." We've all heard a hundred variations of this theme from self-help books to religious texts, and from mystics to little league coaches. But for those of us either blessed or cursed with a rational mind, this book speaks clearly, profoundly, and easy-to-grasp. Hell, even Oprah `got it.' Once you understand that all fear is your mind's projection of an outcome, event or piece of information that isn't even real yet, you start to get a sense of the forces within ourselves that trap or hold us back from truly enjoying any given moment. I read this book again and again whenever I feel stuck. Or I listen to the CD to get a good laugh, because Tolle reads the book himself, and he must not have been happy with the sound of his own voice because he had the tape slowed down to give him a lower, more ominous pitch. It's a little bit creepy, but surprisingly effective, and it never fails to crack me up.

Spirituality and the Mind
This book brought tears to my eyes as I finally was able to place a name and an understanding of the constant mind chatter we encounter which prevents us from living in the Now. I reference this book in my own book, Repackaged Common Sense: A New Age Path to Career and Business Sucess It is truly worth the time and energy to embrace Tolle's book.

A great read from a great teacher
As a mindfulness psychotherapist and teacher and author on the subject of mindfulness The Path of Mindfulness Meditation I frequently refer this book to my clients. It is a refreshing re-presentation of the essential teachings of the Buddha on the very human challenge that we all face - the balance between the world of conditioned "things", the emotional-thought products of the small mind, the ego, and the unconditioned dimension of pure spacious awareness that is our actual true nature and the fabric of our being. Eckhart gives us the practical insights to "break through to the other side."

Life changing -- if you're ready
If you implement even some of the methods in this book, your life will change for the better. It's very important, however, to be mentally prepared to take massive action and make structural changes BEFORE you start to read. I put off reading this book for over a year, and only dove in when I knew I was ready for a change. If you're in the frame of mind for a massive overhaul of your work and life organizational systems, this book is the perfect place to start. If you're not, you'll likely skim this book, think the author has great ideas, but fail to execute.
The message that resonated most to me was that we free up our creative energy by controlling the smaller details that overwhelm us.

Excellent book
The book gives specific, doable ideas about how to increase productivity in a systematic way. I read it before moving into a new office and was able to use its ideas to set up my new space in a much more efficient way.

Roadmap for productivity...
David Allen has provided a very clear strategy for effectively managing ones busy, multi-faceted existence. I thought that this book would be useful in helping me organize my business projects. I've come to realize that it provided useful tools for managing all of my ideas about "things" I wanted to "get done" while integrating all of my goals personal and professional, current and foretasted. I have recommended it to many people.

Quadruple Your Productivity and Enjoy a Little Life
Why You Should Read It: Time is the only real scarce resource. We are all battling for more of it. The only way to have more is to spend it wisely.
Review:
I just finished Getting Things Done. I know. I'm a little late to the game. It was a quick read and I loved the premise. There were no doubt some clear productivity "ah-ha's" as I read. I have spent a lot of time learning and developing my own productivity system over the years and I'm excited to implement a few more of Allan's nuggets. Most of the things he mentions are not totally novel but the package he puts them in catches an eye.
Top 6 Ways to Quadruple Productivity and Have a Little More Time to Enjoy Life:
1. "What is the next task that will get me toward my desired outcome?" This is the biggest point Allen drives home. Always ask this question upon completion of a meeting or task. This alone will put your productivity through the roof. Let this be the last time that you leave the site of a goal, plan or meeting without a clearly defined and scheduled next action item to make it a reality.
2. Plan Your Week. Spend at least a half hour or an hour at the beginning (or end) of each week taking stock of what you accomplished the prior week, what you didn't accomplish, what you learned and what your desired outcomes are for the week to come. Many people dive right into the week with no plan of what they want their week to look like. And then get frustrated when nothing gets done. Be intentional and get committed. Things will start to happen. Spend an hour sharpening the saw to makes the week's cutting all the easier. I have been doing this every week for years.
3. Schedule It. Things do not get done unless you schedule them. By definition in order for a task to be completed it must physically occupy some portion of your life. Lists have become so arbitrary. They get longer and longer and are rarely prioritized, leaving you overwhelmed when everything doesn't get checked off. Also, the average person drastically under estimates how long something will take (at least we're optimistic). This causes them to put 27 hours worth of work on one day's list. Reserving time on your calendar forces you to be honest with yourself and get completed only what is reasonable in the time you have available. Proper expectations are a huge part of getting things done.
4. Schedule A Buffer. We have now come to grips with the fact that everything takes longer than expected. Now except the fact that things always come up that we didn't plan. They take time and sometimes they have to happen right away. Schedule buffer time for these. I literally block off an hour or two each day that simply says "buffer time". It almost always gets filled up with something urgent and unexpected and when it doesn't, I have an hour of my life back-an amazing feeling. That's when it's time to get outside and have some fun (or do whatever you like to do with spare time-other than check email).
5. Give Yourself Strict and Short Deadlines. This is not contradictory to Schedule It. Yes, things take longer than expected, and they also will take up as much time as you have available. We call this Parkinson's Law. The time required to complete a project is directly proportional to the time you have available. In other words, if you have time to waste, you will waste it. You have a day to study for an exam. It takes a day. You have two weeks to study. It takes two weeks. Give yourself enough time to complete a task but not a moment more. Set these limits up in advance.
6. Don't Check Email First Thing in the Morning. If you haven't heard this before, you have not been listening. This is huge. No matter what you're doing, email will immediately throw you off and suck the time and energy out of your life. Get your most important things done in the first 2-3 hours of the day. Then check some email and a little Facebook. I know I do not need to convince you on merit of this. I just need to break you from your addiction.
7. Do Your Most Import Things First. This goes with the above. First thing in the morning (after a good workout and breakfast), since I already have a plan for the week, I know what's most important for the day. So I dive into those 2-3 tasks first. Often before even opening my computer or connecting to the internet, and definitely before checking email. You will feel mountains better about the rest of the day with your major items behind you. Then there's plenty of time to waste away on email.
8. Get a Good System to Keep Track of Your Life. Everyone does things differently and no system will be perfect for all of us. But there are some amazing tools out there for free or almost free to get you started. Whatever the cost, if it gets you organized and motivates you to get things done, it's worth the investment. I use a combination of the Tony Robbins Time of Your Life Planning System, 7 Habits and 4-Hour Work Week in conjunction with my iCal, Google Calendar, Things and Evernote, all synced to my iPhone for what I feel has become my own little work of art. Can't forget a good clean work space of your own and maybe some physical file cabinets either. It took a while for me to get the right system in place and its always changing, but it's empowering once you get it. Find some sexy productivity toys and have some fun.
These steps are easy and any one of them alone will dramatically transform the way you go about your moments, days, weeks and life. Take advantage of them and let me know what you do with all your free time!

Handbook to entrepreneurship
The book does read like a mishmash of Tim's addiction to travelling, his frustration with success and money early on and him stumbling upon a successful nutrition company. However this book also sounds like a real unedited account of his life which is why I like this book. This is not too planned to be a certain type of book to appeal to certain type of audience. It turn by turn account of his adventurous life. It is also fair criticism that all Tim did was to establish only one company and he might have gotten lucky. But it is also true that he sold himself as a expert on nutritions and appeared on many TV shows and create d aTim Ferriss brand. And all the other tid-bids if information are priceless...right from outsoucring companies info, internet pay-per-click ad campaign etc. I have listened to his many videos on youtube and on his personal blog and his most recent talk at the TED, and this man is really brilliant and this book just gives a glimpse of his mind.
Rating :
Genius in looking at things in new ways and helping you see.
Tim's specialty is being able to look at a situation, reverse engineer it and see what, how, and why it is the way it is. Once he knows that he focuses on those factors to do what no one else seems to do. The Genius of this book is he helps you to do the same. The reading, his assignments and his questions help you to look at your own life and you then see what was once thought impossible... actually possible. I loved it, and if it weren't for this book I'd still be at my old job and not my own business. I'm not at a 4 hour work week yet... but I'm getting close! -Hethe

Three Cheers for 4HWW
The 4-Hour Work-week by Timothy Ferris
In The 4-Hour Work-week (4HWW) Mr. Ferris gives us a four step process to define our dreams and goals, eliminate those aspects of our lives that do not contribute to accomplishing our dreams, automate the appropriate level of revenue to finance those dreams and liberate ourselves from the daily chores of life. He leads us down a path toward freedom, defined by his own standards, that results in sufficient financial autonomy and emotional independence to set one's own life course and pursue it with passion and vigor.
Perhaps I read into 4HWW things that were not there. I see it as a pattern to be followed that, at least for me, will not lead to a life of leisure working a mere four hours a week but to an iterative process. 4HWW offers a business development path toward business ownership in a highly liberated fashion in which key players perform the routine tasks of the business allowing the owner time to pursue other interests. For Mr. Ferris those other interests lie in areas of leisure and personal development. I see it as an opportunity to multiply my own time by repeating the steps to produce a number of businesses each requiring a fractional commitment in terms of time on my own part.
While The 4-Hour Work-week by Timothy Ferris is not five star writing, it is three cheer thinking and certainly worthy consumption.
